Like Oxygen

This is going to be a cheesy post...you've been warned!

I've ben in a funk the past couple of days, but I felt a LOT better after I sang for a while. I'm starting to wonder if I don't just enjoy singing but if I actually need it. In the past few years I haven't really thought I'm talented enough to do much with it, but I guess that doesn't mean that it's not something I don't really need to have in my life.

PS my favourite song to sing right now:

Japan

I know this is a bit belated, but I often have a few page views from Japan coming up in my stats. I'm not sure if they just come up through Google Image or Video searches (because of some of the content I have on here), but if you're reading this, I hope everyone you know is doing ok :)

Guitar String Bangles

P1030318

I've always thought there was -something- that could be done with used guitar strings. At first I thought wire jewelry, but they don't stay bent that easily. I figured it out though...fabric-covered bangle bracelets! You can use wire for these as well, but I like the guitar strings because they keep their shape easier.

The tutorial:

You need one thicker guitar string (E, A, D....G will work but it's kind of cutting it close), some electrical tape, wire cutters, scissors and some fabric (a light silk or cotton or something like that works best):

First, trim the ends off the strings:

Second, wrap into a circular shape...make sure it's even, and trim the ends when you're done. Also, make sure your circle will actually fit over your hands!

Use the electrical tape to hold the string together...I found that it wasn't so lumpy when I taped all around the strings, and it was easier to work with and made a slightly thicker bangle:

Next, cut your fabric into a long strip, and start winding it around the bangle:

Lastly, tie in a knot, and trim the end off (leave a bit of a "tail" otherwise it will come undone!)

Tada!

Spring is here!

Since I'm done being emo, I thought I'd share some springtime cheer. I love it when I can really see my garden start!

Lettuce and spinach

Tomatoes (sprouted), eggplant and bell peppers:

Zucchini (sprouted), various hot peppers:

Apple blossoms coming!

Tulips:

Strawberries

The strawberries were kept inside over the winter with the fruit bushes (which is why the apple blossoms are already coming out as well), but I had a few that stayed outside, that are trying to revive themselves as well.

Stress Case

I hate being sick. HATE.

I'm feeling a lot better...I couldn't sleep all last night because I had a horrible stomach ache, so I still have a giant migraine and sore throat today, but I feel a lot better than yesterday or Thursday. But to go with it I'm such a stress case, because I got hardly anything done on those days, and I still have little energy (I'm just EXHAUSTED). I was lucky enough to get an extension on my paper that was due on Thursday, but I still have to -finish- it, and I still haven't reached the rest of my goals for the week either. And I HAVE to clean my house because I'm getting work done on my kitchen Monday morning, and it's just a disaster. I feel like everything has just piled up and now I still don't have the energy to do any of it :(

At least it's really nice outside, and warmer. Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts......

Shout out to Algeria!

Really? Blog views from Algeria? I'm excited that my blog is reaching everywhere!

I feel bad for leaving out the rest of the world....I've seen my blog traffic come from many countries (most of them are ones I know people in, such as Canada, US, UK, Australia and obviously Germany) but Algeria has to be the most random!

Feeling the love!

Fairly Productive

It hasn't been a half bad day. I got up and read a lot on the internet, but I got quite a bit done with it by reading a lot of content that was good for school, etc. I had a hair appointment at noon, which is something I always put off but always need because I'm going grey, and my hair gets really dry, ugly split ends. I came home and started some oatmeal chocolate chunk cookies and threw ingredients for bread into the bread machine, then went outside to do my planting. I'm thinking I might add a couple more things but I planted tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplant, jalepenos and a few kinds of chili peppers. I also planted spinach, and a couple of kinds of lettuce in larger containers, even though I've never really had much luck starting them inside (we'll see if the larger containers work). I did zucchini as well, but I'm not sure if these will be successful as the seeds are kind of old. I took them inside, because I'm growing them in mini-greenhouse flats until it's warmer and they can go back outside. I'd also like to do cucumbers this year but I've given up trying to grow them from seed. I've failed every year.

I'd like to start some flowers as well but I'm kind of bored with nasturtiums and snap dragons (plus snap dragons get EVERYWHERE). I'll probably pick up a few pansies, I have some geraniums I brought in from last season (which will bloom again), I'll plant some sweet peas to climb up the railing, and the tulip bulbs I planted in the fall seem to be coming up, but I'm not sure what else I want to do. I love to have a mix of flowers and edible stuff.

After, I tidied up the house a bit (not spotless but at least passable). Now I'm cooking trout for dinner, and I"ll have it with a side of leftover spinach and sauteed veggies. I'll also make some spaetzle since I need some carbs in there. I've been pretty low on carbs lately...Dr. Atkins would be proud, but I don't really think it's healthy.

After dinner I'll read a few chapters and work on reviewing accounting, because it's the subject I feel I have the least grasp on and it's probably time to start some heftier review other than just reading stuff.

I can definitely feel we're close to the equinox now. My energy levels are different and I'm really awake in the morning (I'm a morning person in spring and summer, and kind of nocturnal in fall and winter). I feel a bit cheerier as well...the winter cynicism is starting to lift.

EDIT: I did manage to do some chapters and some accounting review, and snuck in a documentary about 70's experimental music (well, mostly while I was eating dinner) and a guitar/voice practice. Now writing, German reading and bedtime!

Good Riddance February!

I meant to write this post yesterday, but I wrote about boobs instead. I'm sure you enjoyed it.

So I'd like to give a belated "goodbye" to the month of February. Don't let the door hit you on the way out!

To set the record straight, I didn't have a bad month or anything (the month actually went pretty well), I just hate February in general. It's my least favourite month. It's the last month before spring and I'm usually really sick of winter by then and want it to be over ASAP. Its only redeeming feature is that it's really short.

I don't wear a B cup

Warning: Guys, as fascinating as this title might sound, this is more a post for the ladies.

Not that there's anything wrong with wearing a B cup (it's just a part of a measurement), I just am kind of sick of having it come under question. I used to work at Agent Provocateur. I also designed lingerie for a while. I KNOW how bras fit. The letter in a bra size itself is NOT a specific measurement. It's not A=xs, B=s, C=m and D=l. There's a reason there's a combination of the numbers and letters and it has to do with the ratio of your rib cage vs the measurement of your actual breasts. You can be a perfectly average sized women and even have quite a slight figure and still wear a 32 C. Not to mention that shape goes into it as well...if your breasts are wider, you're NOT going to be comfortable wearing a 32 A, and if you went up a band size, it will cause the band to ride up, which is also not comfortable.

Most women wear the wrong bra size...and I think some of this misinformation really doesn't help.

Sorry if that was all graphic, I'm just big on bra fitting because a) I think we'd all be more comfy if we wore the right bra size, and b) clothes look better if your band isn't riding up (which actually causes "back fat" more than it being too tight!) I'd say more women wear the wrong band size than anything. You wouldn't believe how often a super slim girl would come into AP looking for a 34 or even 36 band, and then when given a 32 C instead of a 36 A, be astounded at how much better it fit (the actual cups on those respective sizes are the same size...it's the band that differs!)

Remember ladies, a bra size is just a number (and letter)...it doesn't matter if you're an 36 A or a 34 D....just get fitted and get the right size!
